One Water Race Preview: Meet Team 8 – Australia

The One Water Race is a huge 250km race down the Stockholm Archipelago which combines navigation, swimrun and adventure racing.

Participating teams need to excel at orienteering, become masters of the challenges of multi-day endurance racing with an abundance of swimming in open water and long distance running.

Here we meet Team 8 – Australia of Elizabeth Dornom, Glenn Wilkinson, Julian Dent and Rob Preston.

About the team

Skipper, Rob Preston raced with or against Elizabeth in Adventure Racing for the last 10 years. Fortunately she likes a big challenge as much as Rob do and was quick to jump on the team. Glenn is new to the ultra distance racing but he and Elizabeth have raced together. Rob will be meeting Glenn for the first time in Sweden.

The biggest challenge you think you will face during the race?

Keeping warm during the night stages when you are moving slowing. The longer the race goes on.

Your top tip for first time swimrunners for training?

Try and find terrain that replicates the specific race you are training for and ensure you are confident to swim the longest leg of the race.

And your top tip for first time swimrunners for race day?

Remember that bad moments don’t last forever. If you feel tired, have a gel or two, and take a look at the scenery and remember there are much worse places to be.
