Welcome from the Editor
I did my first swimrun race in a full length wetsuit and an old pair of trainers along a river in the UK. It was hard going and the total 1.2km swimming felt like completing a marathon. Most of us who participated were doing it for the first time. We all had a coffee and a laugh at the end. It was unlike any event, I had ever participated in; wild and challenging yet also welcoming and inclusive.
We launched swimrun.com in the early part of 2022 to be a useful and insightful platform telling stories and producing content about swimrun across the world. Swimrun was born in Sweden when Michael Lemmel and Mats Skott put on the first race and has been going for about 20 years or so and only becoming an international sport in the last decade. Swimrun is a broad church and attracts triathletes, trail runners, swimmers and people who love being out in nature.
We estimate about 50% of people at swimrun races are new to the sport and the best advice I can offer is just try an event. All you need is a wetsuit, trainers, goggles and an openness to try something new! We hope you enjoy the site and find it a useful platform with practical advice or inspire you to sign up for a first event.
Yous in swimrun,
Fred Newton
